KTwo Technology Solutions: Healing Rural India with Technology

CIO Vendor Dreaming of cushy jobs in cities, most of the doctors disincline to work in villages which constitute a large part of developing countries like India. Surprisingly, the country has a doctor to patient ratio of 1:2000 which is way below the world average.

Healing Rural India with Technology

Deprived of primary medical facilities in remote corners, people travel a long distance to access health facilities. Geared up to improve the health scenario at the bottom rung of the pyramid, Bangalore based KTwo Technology Solutions Private Limited believes that technology can be the magic wand to strengthen rural healthcare in India.

Founded in 2007, the company has invented a trailblazing and affordable system that solves the primary healthcare diagnosis problems by leveraging technology to seamlessly integrate into medical processes. It offers an integrated Rural Healthcare Kiosk named 'Kshema', (meaning 'well being' in Sanskrit). This kiosk installed in Primary Healthcare Centers (PHC) can be operated by a paramedic/operator with which the initial ailments and vital signs like Temperature, Pulse, Pulse Oximetry, Blood Pressure & ECG can be recorded automatically. The doctor can access this information from anywhere and can even talk to the patient and prescribe medication if required. Awarded the prestigious eIndia Award as the 'Telemedicine Initiative of The Year 2013' and 'Innovative Product /India Country Winner' by Logica, UK, Kshema Kiosk solves the primary care needs of the patients without patient/doctor mobility.
Besides vital signs like ECG, Temperature, Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, SPO2, Blood Differential Count and Total Count, the system detects communicable diseases such as Malaria, Tuberculosis, Dengue and HIV (AIDS) as well with more than 90 percent accuracy. While typical lab facilities take days to confirm the disease, it just a matter of hours for the kiosk. "KTwo has built multiple variants of Kshema deployable in Point-of-Care, Mobile Medical Unit, Ambulance, and Mobile Carry Case for Doctors-on-Wheels. KTwo has been a pioneer in developing 'Inclusive Innovation' products in the healthcare space especially rural and corporate healthcare," says Dr. Anant R Koppar, Founder, KTwo Technology Solutions.

With strong solutions designed and developed on a doctoral research, KTwo has participated in many competitive bids and won the contracts against formidable competitors. The company is presently working on a large project in Bihar for State Health Society. As part of this project, KTwo has deployed 212 Kshema Kiosks in PHCs which in turn are networked to 38 District Hospitals, 6 Medical College Hospitals and several Private Hospitals through wireless / broadband connectivity for doctor / expert consultation. It has served more than 1.7 lakh patients in Bihar with over 115,000 varied test services in the last 9 months. This initiative is a big boon for villagers who do not have such facilities at their doorsteps.

Many innovative medical devices are being manufactured around the world enabled by research in the medicine combined with electronics and nano technologies. KTwo wishes to make the most out of these trends, and indulge in research activities to make these devices more affordable and suitable for Indian conditions. It also envisions acclimatizing to Mobile Healthcare which could change the way medical care is provided. With a vision to enhance the quality of life by building world class products and solutions through innovative application of technology, the company foresees entering into enduring partnerships with medical professionals, engineers and investors.
